Required English Courses

The following courses fufill the English requirements for graduation from high school. Placement in an English class will be based on teacher recommendation and test scores.

ESL/Language Arts

ESL Language Arts 1 (9-12)

This ESL course includes Listening, speaking, reading, and basic sentence writing. Students enrolled in this course are required to take ESL reading Improvement and ESL Survival Skills.

ESL Survival skills(9-12)

This is a one year required course for students who are also taking ESL Language Arts 1. Topics include school organization, study skill, American customs, and survival in the English speaking community (high school elective credit).

ESL Language Arts 2 (9-12)

This English course includes basic oral and reading skills and rudimentary paragraph writing. Students enrolled in this course are required tot a take Reading Improvement.

Language Arts 3 or ESL Language Arts 3 (9-12)

This beginning high school English course includes oral reporting, paragraph writing skills, and an introduction to Literature (acceptable) for college preparatory credit or 9th and 10 grade students). Placement in Reading Improvement at this Level is an option based on test scores and teacher recommendation.
