Required English Courses The following courses fufill the English requirements for graduation from high school. Placement in an English class will be based on teacher recommendation and test scores. English English 1 (9-12) This English course includes the writing of multiple paragraph compositions, the writing and delivery of short speeches, and the study of Literary forms (acceptable for college prep credit). English 2 (10-12) This English course includes the writing of various types of multiple paragraph essays (developed by definition, examples, reasons,comparison/contrast, the research paper), the planning and delivery of various types of oral presentations, and a study of Western Lit. English 3 (11-12) This English course includes the refinement of speaking skills, the writing of essays (argumentation/persuasion, analysis), the development of precision and variety in style, and an intensive study of major works of American Lit. English 4 (12) This English course includes the further refinement of rhetorical skills ( e.g. Literary analysis and criticism), the development of a writing style employing tone and Literary devices, and an intensive study of major works of English and Western Lit. Composition/Literature (10-12) This course includes the writing variety of multiple paragraph compositions, the writing and delivery of speeches, and a study of literary forms and themes. Mass Media (11-12) This English course includes multiple paragraph writing and critical evaluation of print and non-print media. This is not a college preparatory class.Business Communications (11-12) This English course includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skill necessary for success in the business world. This is not a college preparatory class. |
