Computer technology

Computer Applications

(Year course open to 9-12th graders)

Computer Applications is a yearlong course in which students will learn about Microsoft Office Suite. This includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Students will also learn how to use Adobe Illustrator 8.0. The course will satisfy the computer literacy graduation requirement.

Advanced Computer Applications

(Year open to 10th-12th graders)

This one-year course is designed to develop in the student the ability to create, using the computer, professional looking documents, promotions, fliers, brochures, presentations, and web pages. The course will involve instruction on computer programs from Microsoft Office, Adobe, and learning advanced research skills on the Internet. These students will also use their skills to maintain the Mt. Pleasant Web Site.
Prerequisites: This course is open to all students who have successfully completed Computer Applications.

Oracle I

(Fall Semester Course open to 10th-12th graders)

This is a course on conceptual data modeling and physical date modeling and design. Students will learn how to analyze requirements of a business, how to represent the findings and how to define and refine tables and various other database objects.
Prerequisites: English I & II, Algebra I & II and Computer Applications.

Oracle SQL

(Spring Semester Course open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders)

This is a course in database Structured Query Language programming. Students will learn to create database structures and to store, retrieve and manipulate data in relational database.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of ORACLE I

Java Programming

(Year long course open to 11th and 12th graders)

This course will introduce students to the world of computer programming using the Java Programming Language. Students will create programs to implement and maintain databases as well as web applications.
Prerequisite: English I & II, Algebra I & II, Computer Applications and either Advanced Computer Applications or Oracle/SQL.
