AVID
Advanced Via Individual Determination
AVID is an elective course designed to prepare middle and high school level students for a college preparatory course of study in high school. The hope is that AVID students will be eligible for enrollment into a four year college or university upon high school graduation.
AVID Includes:

Field Trips to universities
Help with PSAT/SAT preparation
Tutoring by college students
Guest speakers
Note taking skills
Help with college applications.

To provide academic and other support to students to enable them to succeed in college prep level classes in school.

To provide students with the skills to
succeed in advanced classes.
To increase the "coping skills" of project
participants.
To motivate project students to seek a
college education.
To increase the participants' level of career
awareness.

Minority and/or low income students who:

Have approximately a 2.5 grade point average.
Have a satisfactory school citizenship.
Have a good attendance record.
Have good work habits.
Are will to commit themselves to a minimum of two hours of homework each night.
