Art and Drawing/Painting courses

CSU: California State College "Art" Requirement: entering freshmen must pass a year of visual or Perfoming Art (art, music, or drama) in high school in addition to a foreign language.

UC: California University "F"/Fine Arts Requirement: Will be effective beginning with the class of the year 2003.

Art 1 (CSU)(UC)

(Year course open to all grade Levels)
LEARN HOW TO DRAW, PAINT, PRINT, AND MAKE POTTERY!
This is a basic course for students of all levels of art ability and interest; it is not recommended for* students who have a strong skill or interest in one area of art. Various painting and drawing assignments, printmaking projects, jewelry and ceramic crafts and sculpture projects prepare the student for more "concentrated" courses offered in the specific art classes Listed below.
  • *The Art 1 prequisite for Drawimg and Painting 1 may be waived for talented students who submit a portrait of art work for review.

Drawing and Painting 1 (CSU)(UC)

(Year course open to 10th, 11th, 12th graders) with Art 1
Exciting and imaginative portraits, landscapes, still lifes, abstracts, animals, cars, etc. will be recreated through techniques in pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, collage, printmaking, scratch board, colored pencil, water color, and oil paint. Basic color and design ideas will be taught. T he ability to communicate you art ideas and emotions I important and will be developed through the teaching skill, art appreciation and history, terminology, and creativity by student participation in field trips, projects, visual presentations, and discussion. < b>Prerequisites: Open to any sophomore, junior, or senior who has completed one requirement below:
  • *Portfolio Submission- Drawings or paintings (once or more) demonstrating above average skill, talent, and originality with instructor's written approval
  • Art1- With grade of "C" or better
  • Animation 1- With grade of "C" or better

Drawing and Painting 2 (CSU)(UC)

(Year course open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders)
FURTHER DEVELOP YOUR ART SKILLS! Learn new techniques in AIR BRUSH painting, computer art, prismacolor pencil, printmaking, rapidograph pen and ink drawing, "white" scratch board, "drawing from the right side of the brain," water color Landscape painting, acrylic painting, pastel/charcoal portraiture and figure drawing. Students will draw from "Live" models, animals, and will take Landscape field trips. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Drawing and Painting 1 and instructor's written consent
  • MAKE YOUR OWN SKETCHBOOK. Students will be required to keep a sketchbook of their drawings as an outside class assignment.

Drawing and Painting 3 (CSU)(UC)

(Year course open to 11th, and 12th graders)
For the select few, this course will allow talented art students to develop their art skills through independent study program which will allow them to concentrate on one specific drawing or painting media or a variety of them. Students will refine skills in evaluating their work and the work or of other artists. They will study selected historical periods and styles of art. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Drawing and Painting 2 and instructor's written permission.
