Animation courses

CSU: California State College "Art" Requirement: entering freshmen must pass a year of visual or Perfoming Art (art, music, or drama) in high school in addition to a foreign language.

UC: California University "F"/Fine Arts Requirement: Will be effective beginning with the class of the year 2003.

Animation 1 (Magnet)

(Year course open to 9th and 10th graders)
LEARN THE BASICS OF THE GROWIGN FIELD OF ANIMATION!
Animation 1 is the introductory course in a four-year sequence of animation study. This one-year course focuses on the basic elements and principles of art and animation. The student will develop drawings skills through sketching still lifes, objects, figures, and animals. Basic animation assignments will include character development, simple movement studies, traditional animation processes, beginning computer graphics applications, and the history of art and animation.
Prerequisites: A genuine interest in the art of drawing and animation with the understanding that this class demands personal responsibility in planning, creativity and meeting deadlines. Student applying for the Animation magnet are required to submit the Magnet Application From and two drawings that reflect her drawing competency with this application.

Animation 2 (UC/CSU Pending)

(Year course open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders)
Animation 2 is the second class in the "Animation Studio" series. The class is for those students who have passed Animation 1 with a grade of "C" or better and have received approval from the animation instructor to enroll in this class. The class continues the process of preparing the student fore a career in animation through traditional and digital animation exercises. Students are expected to be responsible, self-motivated, and committed to this program by meeting all academics and artistic requirements of the class.
Prerequisites: Open to any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior who has completed "Animation 1 and 2" with a grade of "C" or better and instructor's written consent
  • SUPPLEMNETARY REQUIRED COURSE: DRAWING AND PAINTING 1 must be taken concurrently with Animation 2. Students will learn character development in 3-dimensions, painting techniques, and realistic drawing techniques as they apply to animation background and interiors and well as how they apply to 3-D claymation.

Animation 3 (UC/CSU Pending)

(Year course open to 11th and 12th graders)
Animation 3 is the third class in the "Animation Studio" series. The class if for those students who have passed Animation 2 and Animation 2 with a grade of "C" or better and have received approval from the animation instructor to enroll in this class. The class continues the process of preparing the student for a career in animation through traditional and digital animation exercies. The goal of this class is to focus the student's energy and creativity on developing a quality portfolio upon graduation in his or her senior year. Students are required to be responsible, self motivated, and committed to this program by meeting all academic and artistic requirements of the class.
Prerequisites: Open to any Junior or Senior who has completed "Animation 1 and 2" with a grade of "C" or better and instructor's written consent.
  • SUPPLEMNETARY REQUIRED COURSE: PHOTO 1 must be taken concurrently with Animation 3. Students will learn basic techniques in 35 mm camera use, film processing and printing, indoor studio portrait lighting and composition. "Special" advanced instruction will be given second semester in video production and Adobe Photoshop.

Animation 4 (UC/CSU Pending)

(Year course open to 12th graders)
Animation 4 is the fourth class in the "Animation Studio" series. The class is for those students who have passed Animation 1, Animation 2, and Animation 3 with a grade "C" or better and have received approval form the animation instructor to enroll in this class. The class continues the process of preparing the student for a career in animation through traditional and digital animation exercise. The goal of this class is to focus the student's energy and creativity on developing a quality portfolio upon graduation in his or her senior year. Students are required to be responsible, self motivated, and committed to this program by meeting all academic and artistic requirements of the class.
Prerequisites: Open to any Senior who has completed "Animation 1, 2 and 3" with a grade of "C" or better and instructor's written consent.
